wishing to organize amateur radio activity in Türkiye
As many of you might know Republic of Türkiye is a member of CEPT and CEPT
rules apply to radio amateurs. As of 2010, Kıyı
Emniyeti Genel Müdürlüğü Telsiz İşletme Müdürlüğü has taken over from
Bilgi
Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu as the local authority. All CEPT licence
holders can operate an amateur radio station in accordance with CEPT
recommendation TR61-01 for a maximum period of 3 months using their home
call signs with TA prefix and call area number, provided they send a
letter to Kıyı Emniyeti Genel Müdürlüğü, at the address below, telling
them about the intention. To be safe, send it via registered post well
in advance, say a minimum of two weeks, and bring a copy of your proof
of postage with you.
The official letter from the
Undersecreteriat
of Customs and Telecommunications Authority
1 show that any CEPT licencee can bring his/her amateur radio equipment
in without paying any custom's dues. Please print a copy of these and carry
it with you while passing through the customs. Please also bear in mind
that the customs officers may require you to register your gear in your
passport to make sure you take them with you on the way back. Once you
are in the country, if any officer want to inquire about your ham radio
gear, these plus the official letters from the Telecommunications
Authority 2 and Police Head Quarters will
be enough explanation.
If you are going to stay more than 3 months and want to operate, then you
have to apply to the Directorate General of Coastal Safety together with
2 passport size pictures, a copy of your CEPT licence, a copy of your passport's
relevant pages for ID. You will recieve a TA callsign with the local area
number and suffix starting with Z for one year . For example, TA1ZA is
a CEPT Class 1 licencee who is going to operate from the European part
of TURKİYE.
For periods of upto 3 months, to operate, you have to add the TA prefix
and the area code before your callsign. For example, if you are G1xxx and
you are visiting Trabzon, you can operate as TA7 / G1xxx. For TA area codes,
please refer to the TA Call Area Map
by TA2J (SK).
If you would like to contact local Turkish radio amateurs during your visit,
the TA
Repeater List might be of help.
